Often, I find inspiration from various songs and develop a photoshoot around the song. Originally, this photoshoot was inspired by the song NIGHTRIDER by Arizona Zervas. However, as most best laid plans go, they never turn out exactly how you want. The setting and colors in this particular project didn't quite fit the vibe I was going for. Knowing I wanted to overlay music on this project on instagram stories I began searching for the perfect song. After a few days of intense procrastination, I stumbled upon this song on a random playlist called Young & Sad by Noah Cyrus.
The Song
At first I wasn't sure how well this song would fit. It seemed a bit personal and to be honest a bit depressing. Except for the fact that these models weren't just ordinary models they were my siblings and with that background, I knew this song would embody their character perfectly. They weren't just trying to disappear as the song describes, they were seeking the ultimate getaway. The first picture displays the desire to escape and the ones following depict the loneliness that often accompanies escapism. The feelings of loneliness exist but both siblings journeys converge in the middle when the artist (Noah Cyrus) sings my favorite lyrics, "my sister's like sunshine always bringing good light wherever she will go and I was born a rain cloud". As each sibling attempts to navigate their youth and the sadness that all too often accompanies it, they find peace in the bond that makes them family.
